Another season of exciting lacrosse on and off the field. A host of new freshers joining us, which means new characters and hopefully new superstars that could push all three Lacrosse teams for some trophies this year.
Yes it's that time of year again where we wonder how our Lacrosse teams will do this year, and with their being three teams for the second season running, recruiting new players will be tougher then ever.
Mixed - After an impressive second place season, the mixed team are looking for a chance of getting a piece of silverware. But after a lot of their key women leaving last year, recruiting will be tough and pre-season training will have to be important to get the freshers to grips as early as possible.
My prediction for this season is this: Since we only got second sport due to Loughborough not completing their fixtures I think third place will be great achievement. But I won't be surprised if we don't make third spot with Warwick now introducing a second team into the league this year.
Men's - After what seemed to be a development season, there is much promise for the men's team that could slowly overthrown the mixed team as the premier lacrosse team at Staffordshire University. After the heart-breaking loss at Varsity, revenge is in order and with the men's being a more suitable league, wins could well be the highlight of the season. Expect a lot of history making events in this season for many of the players this season.
My prediction for this season is this: After showing much promise last season, the foundations are now there. Now with another hopeful recruitment of new players this team could be a solid mid-table side, or maybe a top three finish and a possible Varsity victory.
Women's - Once again it will be a hard season for the women's team. Completing their first ever season was their main target last year. They did, and they also managed to get their team into Varsity. But unfortunately after last year's performance the women's team will now need to get results to prove they're worthy for Varsity.
My prediction for this season is this: Even though I still have faith in the team, I'm afraid I can't see much change from last year. A lot of the experienced players have now left and it will be a tough challenge to recruit freshers that can adapt to the sport quickly. I think one win will be an achievement this season. If any women's players are reading this, I'm just being realistic and if you don't like my prediction, prove me wrong.
