One and half quarters only as bad light stopped the women's team
A late face off cued the inevitable bad light scenario as the women's team lost 10-3 at Northampton in a 20 minute encounter.
A first ever hat-trick from Elena Morrison gave the girls something to shout about after a battling performance against a fast and dangerous Northampton side.
Northampton made it hard for Staffs as they managed to score four quick first quarter goals to give the hosts an early lead. But as the rain slowly started to return, it was the turn of the visitors to respond. Morrison was saying no for an answer as her determination was rewarded with a goal to cut the lead down to three.
That goal seemed to build Staffs confidence as possesion swung the way of the visitors. This pressure paid off as Morrison got her second of the game. Morrison completed her hat-trick with a powerful individual run to make the score 8-3 at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter began to a slow start with the ball stayed the midfield a lot, as the bad light started to make it hard for the players to make completed passes. But Northampton still managed to score two goals to make it 10-3. As the sky to turn to pitch black, this gave the referee no choice but to abandon the game half way through the second quarter.
