Staffordshire Men’s Lacrosse fought a tough match this Wednesday against Essex 1sts.
The sides collided in what ended up being a rather scrappy encounter but a regrettably losing one for the home side.
Staffs put in their all when faced with a proficient opposing goal keeper and some solid interception from Essex but battled back in kind.
Vice Captain Dan Courtnage took a particularly brutal shot to the groin bravely defending the Staffs half of the pitch but Essex managed to break through with four goals before the second quarter.
Faced with this setback, Staffs began tightening their defence and for the next twenty minutes, not another goal was scored by the opposition.
This change allowed for the some spectacular runs from Dimitri Chambers and Sam Page, who weaved his way cleverly through the competition.
Sadly, they weren’t able to produce a finish, at least not until the third quarter when Captain David Drysdale scored a fantastic goal which raised the spirits of the team.
The upped morale however was blindsided by two more Essex goals bringing their total up to six.
Quickly, Staffs returned to the strong defensive stance which had served them well previously in the game, fending off anymore goals from their opposition.
One last, low shot from Tom Chandler in the final quarter was the home side’s final effort, Shane Hill making some strong body checks to free up the path for a 6-2 finish.
