This week the A-Z Player Profile hot seat is being occupied by our latest addition to the mixed team and Judo master, Jade Morrall. It is also being occupied by our resident football coach Shane 'Rat' Hall.
Days and days of heavy snow fall means no fixtures for Staffordshire Lacrosse until the new year. This means the men's games against Nottingham Trent and East Anglia will now be rearranged to 26th January. The women's friendly with East Anglia will also have to be played at 26th January. The mixed team's game with Birmingham has now been rearranged to 22nd January. This has forced captain Marcus Howe to play three games in eight days when the team come back after Christmas.
A-Z Player Profile
This week it's Rebecca Merchant who is in the A-Z Player Profile hot seat.
Women's team pull out of BUCS but will continue to develop freshers
The women's team have decided to pull out of their BUCS league. This decision was made due to the lack of experience in the team and the competitiveness of the league they're in. But don't worry they will still be playing those scheduled matches, but only as friendlies.
There will be more on this story as it develops.
Women's team forced to lose via walkover against Nottingham Trent
Due to lack of players, the women's team were forced to cancel their match at Nottingham Trent. Therefore Nottingham Trent win via walkover.
Men's team keep 100% record before crunch game with Nottingham Trent
It's was more of the same from the men's team as the wins keep on coming after winning at Oxford Brookes 11-6 to go three wins without loss. A hat-trick from captain Dimitri Chambers was the highlight of the day. Another highlight was the continuing amount of freshers scoring their first ever goals in the form of Stephen Hamilton and Nicholas Morrissey.
Scoring drought ends but losing run continues for women's team
The improvement is showing in the women's team but unfortunately not in results as the women's team lost against Northampton 26-1. Isabel Wilding managed to get Staffs only goal in the fourth quarter.
It was another case of lack of fitness as Northampton ran rings round Staffs. But as the game went the back line managed to adapt to the Northampton game and it managed to at least half the damage. The final quarter saw the girls shine as Wilding managed to break the Staffs deadlock.
"I think the only way we can all improve is to get our fitness up" says fresher Emma Hunt. "Some of the girls that played were just too fast for us. This happened at the Birmingham game as well for us. On account for who played well I think we all put in our hardest effort. A few players were involved in their first game and they played brilliantly and managed to get the ball a few times from the other team."
The A-Z Player Profile is BACK!!!
We have a new batch of players to start the A-Z Player Profile. In the hot seats are mixed captain and club treasurer Marcus Howe, men's freshers Stephen (Roids) Hamilton and Thomas (Pingu) Chandler and women's fresher Emma Hunt.
Mixed team edge Leicester to go 3-0 ahead of their big game at Warwick
It's three wins and no losses for the mixed after they collcedted a convincing 8-5 win at Leicester. This included the returns of post-graduates Carly Edwards, Nick Thursby and Jack Tew.
Also with more and more players making their mixed debut, it's becoming tougher for captain Marcus Howe to pick his best team for future matches.
Oldies give current squad a lesson with narrow shoot-out win
It was the oldies that reigned supreme in this annual exhibition match. From being 5-0 down, the current Staffordshire Lacrosse team managed to claw it back. It ended 8-8 which meant penalties. After 24 shots the oldies managed to win the shoot-out 1-0 with a goal from Stephen Jinks.
Mixed team go 2-0 after whitewash at Warwick
The mixed team continue their winning ways and collected a clean sheet also, after beating Warwick 2nds 12-0.
Men's team end victorious in the league for the first time in two years
For the first time in two years, the men's team secured a league win as they beat Lincoln 7-4. A combination of hard work and constant pressure on goal earned the men's team with all three points.
Even with the 20-0 loss to Birmingham 2nd, the Staffs women's teams heads remained high as they managed to field a team after weeks of hard work trying to recruit new players.
The majority of Birmingham's onslaught came in the first two quarters as they headed into half time 14-0 up. This period included Staffordshire's best chance of the whole match as Isabel Wilding missed a golden opportunity from a free shot.
The second half saw a much more improved back line from the hosts as they managed to only concede six goals. But the lack of goals for Staffs will give captain Kristina Goggin a lot to work on over the next seven days.
Mixed team began with impressive debut
Despite multiple disallowed goals and the some-what dangerous play by Birmingham, Staffs mixed team managed to end victorious 5-3.
Freshers feel pain as men's team suffer another one goal loss at Keele in friendly
After weeks of recruiting new players, the men's team produced an impressive performance in their debut. But the determination didn't result into a win as Keele managed to end victors 11-10, the same gap from last year's epic Varsity contest.
Another season of exciting lacrosse on and off the field. A host of new freshers joining us, which means new characters and hopefully new superstars that could push all three Lacrosse teams for some trophies this year.
