Despite the journey there, lack of a warm up and very small pitch I thought we played brilliantly. Once again we have some freshers collecting there first ever goals.
Despite being one man down, I was very impressed we quickly got 2-0 up but then it was eventually 2-2 before the cavalry arrived.
Great to see Roids get his first goal, which was only a matter of time to be honest. Was very surprised to see Nick get a goal. I was only surprised because he hasn't been to training lately and I just thought he to needs to catch up with the other freshers. But I'm glad people are proving me wrong, unlike a certain Stephen Jinks who promised me two goals today ;).
In terms of the opposition, they have lots of potential but were thinking too much about body checks rather than passing the ball around. The Welsh guy looked o.k but was overhyped as me and Marcus seemed to close him out well. Well, except when we were man down and they scored three goals in less then a minute, which we couldn't do anything to stop.
If we're going to beat Nottingham Trent then I think we definitely to be training a lot on attack. Still don't seem to passing and catching well from my view on the field. In terms of the defense, I still think we need to work on sliding but only unexpectedly as we don't seem to do it in matches. But we do it in training sessions because we know we need to slide on fast breaks.
Overall, happy with the win, just annoyed we didn't get to warm up, because I reckon we could have got used to the pitch quicker and would have got our passing up to scratch.
From what I heard from the women's, they worked hard, did create some pressure on Northampton's goal, but it's fitness that's letting them down.
Good to see you girls get your first goal of the season. Well done Izzy for getting the goal and by the sounds of it you were ordering the team about well, which comes to my advice for the girls that were in the team last year.
The one thing that has really annoyed me this season is the lack of hardly any "experienced" players. If you're not there, then how are the freshers going to improve, instead of learning on there own. If you can order them about during training about where to go and who you should be marking etc., you wouldn't need to during matches. Which means you can concentrate more on getting goals and trying to win. I understand if you have commitments with your course, but surely you can spare just a few hours a week away from your work. It's rare to see less than half the lads at our sessions which is 12 players. So I don't see why you 2nd or 3rd year girls can't do the same.
