A solid effort guys and another win in the bag that hopefully will grow our confidence come Varsity.
I thought the attack was the best I have ever seen them. Great passing, great cutting. It all looks very promising for Varsity. But I thought the defence was very sloppy. Thankfully we can afford it against Leicester when it is against teams like Nottingham Trent or Keele then we need to improve, a lot. I don't it was mainly the actual d-pole's, I think it was due to a lot of our fresher midfielders not knowing how to defend properly. I do agree a few times us d-poles were quiet, but I think the fresher middies were the main culprits. I won't name names because that won't be fair but they were committing themselves too much and never sticked on the guy they were marking. They just kept chasing after the ball which exposed us and they could have easily got a few cheap goals against us. Thankfully, the shots were either wide or saved. I would seriously work on the middies to defend properly or else we're going to get exposed too often.
As for the rest of match, it would another good win. Great to see Anderson back and in style by collecting a hat-trick. Have to mention Pingu's first ever goal and becoming our sixth fresher to score. After hitting the frame of the goal five times, he manages to score with his foot. I think that just says it all. We almost had Dan 'Ze German' Wichler score as well but the post stopped that from happening.
In midfield, I think our addition of Matt Meehan is looking very promising as it seems to work and gets us in possession very quickly.
My final mention has to go to 'the chopper'. It worked brilliantly for a first effort and after video evidence, it is clearly a legal goal. Leicester claimed it was a moving pick, it clearly wasn't. So I would take it as a successful play and one that we should work a lot more. After a first effort it looked pretty obvious Dimi had it. I think in future we should think about giving it to some of the more unexpected players to make it look even better. Another play that looked promising was the 'A1' play. We confused the defence but unfortunately the ball didn't get passed to someone else, so it was easy to know who to go for. But like 'the chopper' we can improve on that play and it could be really good.
All in all another good win, let's keep this running going. Up next Lincoln.
