Once again, another win, but one with a lot of incidents to talk about, good, bad and very ugly ones.
I was quite shocked to hear at the start of the journey that we now had 12 guys which meant only two subs for the whole game. But that didn't stop the top notch banter on the way. I loved Nick moaning as to how long it was. He never went to UEA so he had no right to moan on the duration of this one.
When we got their I didn't think the pitch looked that bad. It was just the matter of some Rugby goal posts around the area behind the goal and a few fallen branches in one of them as well.
On to the game and we made a terrific start and I think all of us thought this would be easy after we took a 2-0 lead in the first two minutes. But we thought wrong and we were exposed on some of the simplest attacking plays. This basically showed, we haven't turned up yet and we needed to start playing like we usually do.
It showed in bits during the rest of the first half, which included Adrian getting his first goal, which makes it 14 players scoring for us this season.
But in the second half, we finally showed up properly and scored how we always do. I also think putting Marcus in as a defender helped it change around a bit and gave the rest of defence a sub to use and cool off whilst we came back and got a lead.
Once again it was the usual lot that were getting our goals, Dimi, Anderson, Nathan. But today also saw Shane, Adrian and Pingu up their games and get on the score sheet.
A terrific performance by Adrian and even though Marcus (somehow) got man of the match, everyone thought it should have been you. As you now have picked up the essential skills with the sick to match your excellant stamina, you have become a brilliant player and could be our diamond in the rough come Varsity. Same for Pingu, his strength is improving so much which is making us win a lot more scraps for ground-balls. Good to see you can score with your stick now, but it was just a shame it was ruined by that stupid bow & arrow celebration. The last time I saw someone do that was Robbie Keane for Ireland in the 2002 World Cup. Never want to see it again, or if you're trying to make an embarrassing celebration every time you never then that can be your thing.
Now prepare yourselves because I am about to talk about Shane Hall and once again he is up to his old tricks. First off I must give credit for him getting a hat-trick today today. You worked your ass off once again and you never give up when fighting for those ground-balls. But unfortunately your enforcer side came out again and it ended your day early with a first for me and everyone else watching, a sending off. We all thought you lost it at Nottingham Trent but today at Lincoln was just beautiful for all the wrong reasons.
I was fine with the multiple slashing calls, because that seems to be your natural play now and with most sports people, your natural playing of a sport will never change. But the one thing that annoyed me and I think everyone else was the constant back chat and even swearing to either the opposition or the refs. I know the refs weren't the best but you still shouldn't argue with them, no matter how bad the decision is. I tried reasoning with you but you seemed to hot-headed so I just thought, I know Shane won't be bad enough to get himself sent off as I have never seen it happen before. But no, with ten minutes left Shane gets sent off and we are a man down for five minutes which really pissed off all of the defence and Si. Thankfully the damage wasn't so bad and we managed to win convincingly.
With Varsity looming I dread to think what scene you will cause there in front of loads of people. I can easily see you causing a riot with the fans like in the men's hockey last year. But like I say to everyone on here, prove me wrong and play like I know you can, within the rules of course. Despite all of that I thought you were brilliant and well deserving of your first-ever hat-trick. But as time goes on you will become a Lacrosse version of Tie Domi and if anyone don't know who Tie Domi, here is a link to give you a guide of what this sports personality is like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ytC3JxQcDWA.
Other mentions have to go to Nick who seems to have found his ideal position. He worked hard for ground balls and won a lot of them. His passing is getting up to scratch. If he keeps coming to training then he could be a vital part of the attacking plays.
As for me, well I made an impromptu début as a middie-pole for the first time ever in the second half a couple of times, and it seemed quite exhilarating. I actually managed to get two shots on goal, one just clipping the keepers stick and another hitting the post apparantly, but I couldn't see as it was a tight angle. But I feel that first goal is coming ever closer. I do hope so, because I feel I deserve it after almost three years with this team and not long now till I leave.
But to conclude today's game, despite the woeful start it is good to see us come from behind as we haven't really done that this season. It shows that we can overcome sloppy mistakes and get our heads together to get another valuable win. This was one quality we have never achieved until now and this has given more confidence with Varsity now six weeks away.
Oh and apparently, Nathan is fine with his homosexuality as he told a few people on the way back ;) . Make of that what you will, ha ha.
