A terrific day in the history of the Staffordshire men's lacrosse team. Our first league win in two years and what a feeling I and the whole team have.
Everyone knew this was going to be a close one and you all played as if it was going to be your last. We could and should have won it by a lot more I think, but their fresher keeper just played an excellent game and was stopping everything.
I'll start with our super sub goalkeeper, Nathan. I had faith in him that he would play well, because he's already played in goal last season. So it was an expected performance for me from Nathan. Very well played sir.
The defensive line I think overall was very good, but at times I felt we (including myself) committed too much, but it was only just, so it was only fractionally wrong not majorly wrong. When we were a man down, it did take us time to set up the five man zone. But eventually it became natural to us and we were a very soldi outfit on the pitch. Keep it up 'D'.
Midfield worked their socks off as usual. They contributed a lot in both play-making and scoring. They also came back and defended well except one incident that is 'dick of the day' material. When the d-pole came to attack with the ball, Marcus was saying "don't worry he's no threat, he won't score." Low and behold the d-pole guy scores, with the aid of deflection from our Treasurer. Another incident, but a positive one that should get mentioned was from our captain, Dimitri Chambers. I think it was the last goal, where he somehow scored whilst doing a swim dodge. It seemed that he got checked the ball came out and just looped over the goalie.
Attack was impressive as well, a lot of goals including some absolute beauties. Most notably Stephen Jinks' quick thinking to sneak around the goal and shot it in and perhaps the goal of the day when David Drysdale seemed to intercept a shot attempt and produce a nice underarm behind-the-back shot. Was very impressed wit that Mr. Vice-Captain.
Overall an excellent performance. It feels great to finally win a league game, bring on Leicester to go 2-0.
As for women, well I'm sure you can relate with me as I don't have much to say on this match. A great achievement to actually get a team out there. To be brutally honest, I wasn't expecting much from this match against such a dangerous side.
It will be a long season for you girls, because it looks this season could well be the same as last season. But like I keep saying, prove me and the rest of us wrong.
